As soon as she arrives at the capital city-planet, she learns that her predecessor is dead, probably murdered. ![]() The viewpoint character is Mahit Dzmare, newly appointed ambassador from a border space station to the Empire of Teixcalaan. It’s about the devastation and the allure of empire. The book is dedicated to “anyone who has ever fallen in love with a culture that was devouring their own”, and that pretty much sums up the theme of the book. The first one I found at the library is this one, by Arkady Martine. There was a great post on NPR on the best sf/fantasy of the last decade, and I’m trying to read some of them. ![]()
